All about the dormitories

  • New Telegram channel for updates on the apartments

Currently, you have to apply for available apartments through the Studierendenwerk website.
Despite the high number of vacant apartments, the selection is limited. From conversations with various new tenants, we’ve learned that quite a few people use automated programs to stay informed about available apartments.

We believe this gives an unfair advantage to those who cannot create such programs!

So if you don’t feel like checking the site several times a day, four times a week, and hoping for available apartments, we offer a Telegram channel.
There, you’ll be automatically notified as soon as new apartments become available, so everyone has an equal chance.

  • Publication of the rent dispute

Here you will find all the information and results relating to the rent debate and our survey results.

Since the Dortmund Student Services Association is rapidly increasing rents, we asked what the reason for this increase was. Not because we want to prevent the increase, but because all tenants should know what they are actually paying for. After several discussions over the past few months failed to produce any answers, we feel compelled to publish everything we have learned so far.

In October 2025, we conducted a survey of all residents across all dormitories and asked them how much their rent had increased, how much of a burden this was for them, and how high rents are in general. The results are summarized and categorized at the following link.
